Wooden garden windmills

A wooden garden windmill makes a distinctive feature beside flowers, a garden path or an open space. Compare models by height, shape and roof colour. Each product page shows whether solar lighting is available.

How to choose your garden windmill

Height including sails and space

Check whether the stated height includes the sails. Allow room for the base and rotating sails. Compare the dimensions with your intended location before choosing a model.

Shape, roof colour and lighting

Models differ in size and design. Compare pictures alongside dimensions rather than choosing by model number alone. Select roof colours and available solar lighting on the product page. Included parts depend on your chosen version.

Installation, care and spare parts

Read the model-specific guidance on the base, securing the windmill and wood care before assembly. Care needs depend on treatment and location. Match the model and dimensions when choosing spare parts such as replacement sails.

Frequently asked questions

Does the stated height include the sails?

The total heights of our current windmills include the sails. Product descriptions and the model guide also give heights without sails. For Type 2, this measurement additionally excludes the wind wheel.

Do the sails and head turn?

Current models have movable, ball-bearing sails. Many also have a rotating head. Check the individual description for rotation, wind vanes and removable parts.

Can I choose dormers?

Some models offer a choice with or without dormers; others have fixed dormers. Available options are listed on the product page and in the model guide.

How does the solar lighting work?

Models with solar options may offer white light, colourful light or no solar lighting. The described solar versions switch on automatically at dusk. Lighting duration depends on sunlight and battery charge, among other factors.

What should I consider when positioning it?

Allow for the base area and the movement of the sails. Choose a stable, level location and follow the model’s positioning and fixing instructions. Check the description for included fixing parts.

How do I care for a wooden windmill?

Pretreatment varies by model and colour. Protect untreated surfaces before outdoor use as directed by the product instructions. Check the finish regularly and renew wood protection when needed. Pretreated wood also needs care depending on its location.
